Training Course of the Chinese Wushu Duan System for Overseas Practitioners

(Regulations)

The Chinese Wushu Duan System is a system stipulated and implemented by the Chinese Wushu Association to overall evaluate the levels of wushu practitioners. To further popularize and promote Wushu worldwide, increase theoretical and technical level, the Chinese Wushu Association will hold “Training Course of Chinese Wushu Duan System for Overseas Practitioners” from time to time.

I. Levels of Duan:

1. Qualification to Duan

2. Elementary Duan: 1st Duan, 2nd Duan, 3rd Duan

3. Intermediate Duan: 4th Duan, 5th Duan, 6th Duan

4. Advanced Duan: 7th Duan, 8th Duan, 9th Duan

II. Requirements for the Applicants:

Those overseas Chinese and overseas practitioners who love Chinese Wushu and have practiced Wushu for over two years can apply for the training course.

III. Training Content:

1. Technical content and examination criteria of Chinese Wushu Duan System

2. Wushu ethics and basic wushu theory

IV. Examination Method:

1. Evaluating Wushu ethics: valuate the practitioners' performance in Wushu courtesy and virtues during the training course.

2.Examination Content

① Examination in theory:

 a. Elementary Duan: Perform Wushu protocol

 b. Intermediate Duan: Basic concept of Wushu ethics, perform Wushu protocol, and the basic theories in Chinese Wushu

 c. Advanced Duan: Basic concept of Wushu ethics, perform Wushu protocol, and the basic theories in Chinese Wushu; 10 minutes speech on one academic topic of wushu and 5 minutes answering questions

 d. If the applicant independently writes a thesis on wushu and the thesis is selected into one of the international and national wushu research seminars, which are organized by the Chinese Wushu Association or Wushu Branch of the China Sports Science Society, he or she is qualified for passing the theoretical examination in the Duan Examination in the last two years (Be exempted from theoretical examination).

② Examination in skills:

Elementary Duan:

 a. Those who have practiced wushu for over two years and pass the examination for qualification are qualified for Duan examination.

 b. Those who have been elementary duan for over one year, pass the examination in performing bare-handed routine required for 1st Duan or basic sanshou skills are qualified for applying for 1st Duan.

 c. Those who have been elementary duan for over one year, pass the examination in performing bare-handed routine required for 2nd Duan or sanshou attack and defense skills are qualified for applying for 2nd Duan.

 d. Those who have been elementary duan for over two years, pass the examination in performing bare-handed routine required for 3rd Duan and one weapon routine (long or short), or sanshou actual fighting skills are qualified for applying for 3rd Duan.

Intermediate Duan:

 a. Those who have been 3rd Duan for over two years, pass the examination in performing bare-handed routine required for 4th Duan and one weapon routine, or sanshou actual fighting skills required for 4th Duan are qualified for applying for 4th Duan.

 b. Those who have been 4th Duan for over two years, pass the examination in performing bare-handed routine required for 5th Duan and one weapon routine, or sanshou actual fighting skills required for 5th Duan are qualified for applying for 5th Duan.

 c. Those who have been 5th Duan for over two years, pass the examination in performing bare-handed routine required for 6th Duan and one weapon routine, or sanshou actual fighting skills required for 6th Duan are qualified for applying for 6th Duan.

Advanced Duan:

 a. Those who have b een 6th Duan for over six years, pass the examination in performing bare-handed routine, made remarkable achievements in theoretical research and noble-minded in wushu virtues are qualified for applying for 7th Duan.

 b. Those who have been 7th Duan for over five years, made remarkable achievements in work, theoretical research and theoretical works, made substantial contribution for wushu development and noble-minded in wushu virtues are qualified for applying for 8th Duan.

 c. The 8th Duan holders who made important achievements in work, theoretical research and theoretical works, made great contribution for wushu development, have great impact on wushu development and noble-minded in wushu virtues are qualified for applying for 9th Duan.

(For Taolu, Duan applicants may perform one routine with the same technical level as the routine required for the related Daun.)

3. Identification of an applicant's qualification: The panel of the course will appraise the grade and qualifications of the applicant who applies for a level (including the applicant's experiences of practicing Wushu, achievements in work and theory).

4. Conferment of the Duan: The applicants who pass the appraisal of Wushu ethics, examinations in skills and theories, and the qualification identifications above, will be conferred a level concerned.

V. Requirements for Applying Duan:

According to the stipulations of the Chinese Wushu Duan System, the overseas applicants shall meet the following requirements:

1. Those who apply for Duan should receive education on Wushu ethics, learn the basic content of wushu ethics and command Wushu protocol.

2. Those who observe Wushu virtues and have systematically practiced Wushu for at least three years, participate in the wushu Duan training and pass the examination can apply for 1st Duan ? 3rd Daun.

3. The masters of one kind of bare-handed routine or teachers, coaches, and athletes with 1st Grade Warrior title who observe Wushu virtues, have been engaged in teaching Wushu overseas for at least 5 years, when they were in China they had acquired elementary professional title of Wushu in China and pass the examination can apply for 4th ? 6th Duan.

4. The masters of one kind of bare-handed routine or teachers, coaches, and athletes with Warrior Hero title or famous retired athletes (champion of individual event at national wushu championships in China) who observe Wushu virtues, have been engaged in teaching Wushu overseas for at least 10 years, when they were in China they had acquired advanced professional title of Wushu in China, made certain achievements in theoretical research, made substantial contribution for wushu development and pass the examination can apply for 7th ? 9th Duan.

VI. Expenses Charged for this Training Course:

1. Application fee: US$60.00 per person, paid with other fees upon arrival.

2. Training fees: US$ 50.00 per person/per day

3. Accommodation: Double room: US$ 50.00; single room US$ 70.00

4. Charges for conferment of ranking: Those who obtain the ranking after passing the examinations and appraisals shall be charged for the evaluation concerned (including evaluation, certificate, subsidiary certificate and badges). The charging standards are as the following:

① Duan Qualification: US$ 30.00

② 1st Duan: US$ 60.00

③ 2nd Duan: US$ 90.00

④ 3rd Duan: US$ 130.00

⑤ 4th Duan: US$ 160.00

⑥ 5th Duan: US$ 200.00

⑦ 6th Duan: US$ 230.00

⑧ 7th Duan: US$280.00

⑨ 8th Duan: US$330.00

⑩ 9th Duan: US$380.00
